Spring in Dementia Friendly Northern Colorado

What’s going on here?

Spring in Dementia-friendly Northern Colorado: ElderCare Resource Day included more than 40 people learning about the Contented Dementia approach to care. “Dementia-Friendly Communities of Northern Colorado” had a booth at the Fort Collins Chamber of Commerce Healthcare Summit.   National radio show, Alzheimer’s Speaks, and local radio, KRFC, have or will be soon airing interviews about our efforts in Northern Colorado to make all of us more dementia-friendly.  Memory Care facilities and home care agencies are renewing their commitments to providing more dementia training for their staff.  EMS personnel and law enforcement are continuing with dementia-awareness training.  The Fort Collins Senior Center offered education to the rest of the staff so that their facility is the first City of Fort Collins facility to post the “We are Dementia-Friendly” Purple Angel window cling at the entrance.   B Sharp Arts Engagement is undergoing a crowdfunding campaign to raise money to pay for the rest of the research dollars needed to finish the study, while participants enjoyed the Fort Collins Symphony Pops Concert on Saturday night.  HIS NEIGHBOR PHIL has been shown in a few locations and will continue to be presented to the people in our area who want to see this touching film portraying the story of one woman with dementia and how it impacts her entire family, their friends, and others in the community.  Virtual Dementia Tours continue to be offered.  Northern Colorado Music and Memory Project is moving ahead. Two Memory Cafés and various support groupscontinue to meet.  A new memory café is slated to open in Loveland on May 19th!   And…some of our care partners will attend the well-deserved caregiver pampering day at the end of the month…This is Northern Colorado…where people understand that the time is NOW for Courage, Connection, and Compassion.
