Scheels demonstrates dementia-friendly customer service

This month, we are celebrating our 3 year anniversary as a grassroots initiative in Northern Colorado. We’re celebrating without a party, but instead with an invitation for you to join us in sustaining and growing our local efforts toward increasing dementia-awareness and dementia-friendliness throughout Northern Colorado.  You can join us through your financial support and through your willingness to engage in simple strategies which enable you personally to contribute to the well-being of others walking the dementia journey.

Recently, we got to acknowledge and thank some employees at the Johnstown Scheels. One of their customers brought a group of residents from a local memory care community for a self-guided tour of the store.  This customer nominated Scheels for showing exceptional dementia-friendly service.   Instead of a self-guided tour, they ended up with a full service grand tour. “The employees ensured that we had Ferris Wheel tokens for those who wanted a ride, assisted our residents onto the ride as needed, showed us all around the store, took us to the café, gave us ice cream, and even offered to take a group picture. The treatment we received ‘restored my faith in humanity.’”    The staff at Scheels insisted, “it’s just what we do.”  It’s their culture…and we thank you, Scheels, for making our community more dementia-friendly as a result.

Let us know if you are aware of other businesses deserving recognition for making our communities increasingly more dementia-friendly.
